actually he plays the bass the whole song, but he plays it on the keyboard. you know you can play bass tabs on the low end of a keyboard

Whiteguy492 is right about there having no 1-0-1-0 on the E cord during the solo but is wrong about hitting the first fret of the E cord six times, you really hit it only five times, it goes like this

G-----------------------------------

D-----------------------------------

A-----------------------------------

E-33-55-1-1-1-1-1-3-55-33-1-1-1-1-1-etc...

don't get me wrong, everything else about his correction is good.

Just to anser Bass182nirvana's question.

The little x's mean that you play whats called a dead note, its like a muted note exept not actually a note. It has a kind of low tap/thump sound to it. I'm not exacly shure how to play it but I think it works by breifly tapping a muted string with your thumb.

I hope that helped.

For all those Zeppelin fans out the the true tab for bass for this is _________. Nothing in otherwords. There is no bass line in the original song. John Paul, the bassist for those who don't know decided the bass lines he wrote made the song sound too much like a folk song.

OMFG. STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN HAS NO BASS!!!!! JOHN PAUL JONES PLAYS KEYBOARD THROUGH THE WHOLE SONG.
liveafterdeathliveafterdeathUnknown Date
all of those people saying that there is no bass in this song are right, all you have to do is watch "the song remains the same" (you can probably rent it at a store) and you will see that jones is on his keyboard.

Everyone is complicating things on the bass or no bass. Live he would have done whatever he felt like doing, and on the recording he would have played the keys part on keys and the bass part on bass. Simple as that. It's called studio, figure it out.

Why does every one argue about the easiest riff ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JPJ has played this song on both the keyboards and bass guitar. Mostly on keyboard, doing a bassline with one hand. This is a legit tab to a band who doesn't have a keyboard player. And it is spot on good.
